I’m A Terrible Photographer

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” — Dorothea Lange

Itwas upon my return from Britain in 2017 after a holiday that a friend of mine commented, “That’s it, Natasha, I’ve got to say this. Your photos are terrible.”

My friend called me immediately after he saw my latest posts on an old Instagram account. “The last time I was in the UK, it was beautiful. Your pictures make the whole country look dreadful. Why are your photos often blurred? Are your eyes alright?”

“It’s a style,” I coolly replied. I lied. The photos came out blurry, and I had no intention for them to appear that way. The effect, I thought, was cool.

“The next time I’m free and back in Malaysia, I’ll give you photography lessons.”

“You know that won’t end well,” I replied, amused.

“I get a headache having to visually adjust your angles in my head. You know there are functions in your phone you can use when you take photos? Did you even check them out?”

“Nope. I just aim and click.”

“Even your subject is not in the center. Can you try to achieve that, at least?”
